Job Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Be physically fit (able to walk long distances, remain alert during long shifts, and work in extreme weather).
  • Be comfortable at heights (if applicable).
  • Be available for the full training period—no exceptions!
  • Have a flexible schedule—work shifts are posted the day before.
  • Not be an active member of a competing union (must be eligible to sign with Carpenters Local 1256).
  • Be able to pass a Police Record Check.
  • Have strong attention to detail and be able to follow strict safety protocols.
  • This position is NOT suitable for students. You must be available for shift work, including days, nights, and weekends.

Job Responsibilities

As a Safety Technician, you will:

  • Monitor work environments for hazards and safety compliance.
  • Conduct safety tests and assess air quality to maintain safe conditions.
  • Perform critical safety watch duties, including:
    • Spark Watch – Prevent and respond to fire hazards from hot work.
    • Bottle Watch – Oversee breathing air supply for workers in confined spaces.
    • Safety Watch – Ensure worksite safety compliance and emergency preparedness.
  • Act as an emergency responder when required.
  • Enforce safety regulations to protect workers and site operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety assessments and compliance.

This is a physically demanding role requiring strong observational skills, situational awareness, and the ability to work in a high-risk environment.

The Experienced Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fire alarms, life safety, access control, intrusion, and video systems in commercial and industrial settings. Key responsibilities include performing inspections and repairs, ensuring compliance with fire safety codes, providing detailed reports, and supporting junior technicians. The position requires strong technical skills, including knowledge of fire alarm standards and electronic systems, as well as effective communication and organizational abilities. Candidates should be certified CFAA Technicians or in the process of completing their certification, with at least two years of experience preferred, and must hold a valid G driver’s license with a clean abstract. On-call duties and familiarity with intercom, security systems, and Building Reports software are additional assets.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Complete physical and electrical installation, diagnose and repair problems related to system operation for access control, intrusion systems, and video, telephone and network systems
  • Perform monthly, semi-annual and annual inspections along with maintenance repairs to fire alarm, fire suppression and emergency lighting systems as well as fire extinguishers and fire hoses
  • Work in commercial, industrial and other types of buildings, completing Service Work Orders within allotted time using Tech Support resources of various suppliers
  • Follow up on the status of Service Work Orders, completing all required documentation and communicate any issues as they occur, as well as recommendations and other activities as required
  • Provide detailed inspection reports and notes
  • Trouble shoot fire alarm-related issues
  • Installation, verification and programming of systems
  • Provide technical support to other technicians possibly working on other unrelated job sites, supervise and train Junior Techs to ensure high-quality standards are maintained
  • Participate in on-call duties

Requirements

  • Certified as a CFAA Technician with a valid license to work in Ontario or currently working towards completion on their schooling
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the fire alarm and life safety industry (preferred)
  • Excellent working knowledge of Fire Alarm related codes and standards such as CAN/ULC S536-04, CAN/ULC S537-05 and other Ontario Fire Code
  • Strong communication skills with both clients and coworkers
  • Valid G Drivers License
  • Clean driver abstract
  • Excellent troubleshooting and possess a high level of electronic skills
  • Knowledge of intercom and security systems is an asset
  • Experience in using Building Reports is an asset
  • Great organizational skills
  • Efficiency in computer skills
